Last month one of our Interviewers got a chance to interview singer/song writer Jimmy Robbins.

1) State your name, what you do, and a random fact about yourself?
JR: My name is Jimmy Robbins. I am a singer songwriter and a big fan of candy.

2) When did you start playing music and what made you want to start?
JR: I started playing guitar when I was seven and writing songs at 11. As far as what made me want to start I don’t think it was ever really my choice but more like music chose me. I was going through some hard times with my mom being sick and had a lot I didn’t know how to talk about. The things I was feeling started finding their way out through music and the rest is history.

3) Who are your biggest musical and non-musical influences?
JR: Well non-musical would be my Dad. He’s 100 percent the best person I’ve ever met. Musical influences for me are Tom Petty and Elvis Costello.

4) When you write your lyrics, where do your ideas come from?
JR: I tend to write about things that are going on in my life. I think my technique comes from where I started as a kid writing about my feelings.

5) What has been your biggest challenge as a musician and how did you overcome it?
JR: Well I’m not a terribly outgoing person. I’ve always been pretty shy and awkward and I definitely still am awkward but I think I’ve overcome my shy side a bit.

6) What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you when playing a show?
JR: Well I close my eyes sometimes when I’m singing and because of that I sometimes hit my face on the microphone and I did that once so hard that it fell off the stage and hit a girl in the front row. She wasn’t hurt but I never recovered haha.

7) What are some of the best and worst parts about touring?
JR: The best parts are getting to play music for so many different people and getting to see so many places. The worst part for me is definitely missing my family and friends so much.

8) If there were to be a movie made about your life, what would the opening song be and who would you want to play you?
JR: MMMbop by hanson and I would be played by Conan O’brien.

9) What does the future look like for you? (new music, more touring, exc..?)
JR: The future looks good I think. I’m writing new music that I’m very excited about and working on recording in Nashville with Mike Shimshack and Keith Thomas. You’ve not seen the last of me yet.

10) Anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
JR: Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to me! I hope you like my stuff. :-)
